Magnetic Terms and Units

Magnetic field is also consist different terms which are used to define strength, density etc of magnetic field.Different types of terms are given as below

  • Magnetic Flux
  • Flux Density
  • Magnetic Field Strength
  • Magnetising Force of a Solenoid
  • Permeability
  • Absolute Permeability
  • Relative Permeability
  • Retentivity
  • Hysteresis
  • Permeance
  • Reluctivity

Magnetic Flux

It is defined as the number of magnetic lines passes through a cross sectional area is said to be as magnetic flux.

Unit of Magnetic flux is Weber

Magnetic Flux Density

It is defined as the magnetic flux per unit area is termed as magnetic flux Density. It is denoted by B.

Unit of Flux Density is Weber/meter2 which is also called as Tesla.

Magnetic Field Strength

The strength of magnetic field at any point is measured by the force experienced by N-pole of Wb placed there. It is also called as intensity of magnetisation or magnetic force. It is denoted by H.

Unit of H is Newton/weber also written as Ampere-turn/meter(AT/m)

Magnetic Force of Solenoid

It is given as below formula

H=NI/L

Unit is given as A/m

Permeability

It is defined as the ability of material to conduct magnetic field flux through it is called as permeability. It is also termed as ease of flow of magnetic flux through any material. It is further having two types given as below

Absolute Permeability

Absolute permeability is given as flux density per unit magnetising force.

Unit is given as H/m Henry/m

Relative Permeability

Relative permeability is defined as the ratio of absolute permeability of medium to the absolute permeability of vacuum.

It does not having units.

Retentivity

It is defined as the ability of material to hold its magnetism after the magnetising force is removed. If any material having high retentivity they ca be used as permanent magnet.

Hysteresis

It is defined as the lag of intensity of magnetisation during process of magnetisation or demagnetisation.Hysteresis is also leads to net loss of energy. It is depends up on the maximum flux density, frequency of reversal of magnetization.

Permeance

It is reciprocal of reluctance and resembles to the electrical conductance. Its unit is Henry.

Reluctivity

It is a specific reluctance and resembles to the electrical resistivity which is specific resistance.

  1. Exactly when we find issues related to such a subject that is hard to find anyway a couple of individuals like you make it straightforward for us. An obligation of appreciation is all together for giving us significant time. Neodymium magnet manufacturer
